Three Upsets

First, the Toronto Raptors got blown out at home in game one against the Milwaukee Bucks. Second, the Los Angeles Clippers lost at home in game one by a Joe Johnson buzzer-beater. And Third, the 1 seeded Celtics lost at home to the Chicago Bulls on TNT. The Bulls winning streak on TNT apparently exists even in the NBA Playoffs.

BUCKS 97-83 RAPTORS. The Raptors got destroyed in game one by a Giannis Antetokounmpo led Bucks team. The rookie, Malcolm Brogden, also did his part to win the game for the Bucks as he scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Toronto did terrible in this game, their All-Star Kyle Lowry only scored 4 points and the Raptors shot 36% overall and 22% from three. They also only passed for 15 assists and turned the ball over 10 times, as opposed to the Bucks 5 turnovers and 45% shooting. Hopefully for Toronto they can do better and improve going into game 2 trailing 1-0.

JAZZ 97-95 CLIPPERS. Despite losing the Clippers didn’t preform terribly. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin combined for 51 points, 14 assists, and 14 rebounds. But somehow they still lose even though the Jazz were missing Rudy Gobert, their star defensive player. Joe Johnson had 21 points off the bench, including the game winner over Jamal Crawford. The Jazz shot 48% overall, 42% from three, and 47 bench points. While the Clippers shot 44% overall, 33% from three, and 20 bench points. The Clippers have a good chance to win game two, but they will have to go harder than they did in game 1.

BULLS 106-102 CELTICS. The Bulls pulled off an unlikely upset over the 1st seed. Chicago’s winning streak on TNT continues into the NBA Playoffs. Isaiah Thomas played well the whole game but that wouldn’t be enough to beat Chicago. Jimmy Butler took over in the fourth quarter for the Bulls, while Isaiah Thomas didn’t get a lot of help in scoring from his teammates. We will see if the Bulls can pull another upset in game two to go up 2-0 headed home to Chicago. Isaiah Thomas will play in game 2 but probably not in game 3, so he can spend time with his family after losing his sister in a car accident. Game 2 is in Boston on TNT, can the Bulls keep the streak?

WARRIORS 1-0 BLAZERS. Game 2 is Wednesday.

JAZZ 1-0 CLIPPERS. Game 2 is tonight.

ROCKETS 1-0 THUNDER. Game 2 is Wednesday

SPURS 2-0 GRIZZLIES. Game 3 is Thursday.

BULLS 1-0 CELTICS. Game 2 is tonight.

WIZARDS 1-0 HAWKS. Game 2 is Wednesday.

BUCKS 1-0 RAPTORS. Game 2 is tonight.

CAVALIERS 2-0 PACERS. Game 3 is Thursday.

Warriors vs Blazers recap

Warriors 121-109 Blazers. The Portland Trailblazers played incredibly as they kept up with the Golden State Warriors for three quarters. The fourth quarter was all Warriors though as they outscored the Blazers 33-21. CJ McCollum was unbelievable, scoring 41 points and 8 rebounds. But Draymond Green stole the show from McCollum, as he collected 19 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 blocks, and 3 steals. Green played great on the defensive end as he had one of his best defensive games ever. Durant and Curry both shined as they combined for 61 points and 15 rebounds. Game two is in Oracle Arena, Oakland as the Warriors try to extend their lead to 2-0.

NBA Awards 2017

These are the players that I think should receive the real awards in the NBA. The real NBA awards will be announced on a awards show in June after the Finals and after the season. I will be giving out awards for MVP (Most Valuable Player), DPOY (Defensive Player of the year), MIP (Most improved player), ROY (Rookie of the year), COY (Coach of the year), and Sixth Man of the year.

MIP: Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannas has been an incredible player for the Milwaukee Bucks, he helped them immensely to get to the playoffs. At 23 points per game and 9 rebounds a game he is my most improved player.

DPOY: Draymond Green. Green is the 1st in Defensive rating (99.3), 1st in steals (2 per game), 2nd in blocks (295), and tied for 1st in Defensive field goal percentage at the rim (43.9%). I think that says it all.

COY: Mike D’Antoni. D’Antoni has created a great offense in Houston. He has turned around the Rockets from a 41 win team to a 55 win team. They are the 3rd seed in the west and have the 3rd best record in the NBA.

ROY: Dario Saric. Saric has done a lot of good for a Sixers team without their star Joel Embiid. Averaging 12.8 points per game and 6 rebounds a game. He has done well in the second half of the season giving him the edge over Embiid and Malcolm Brogden.

6th Man of the Year: Lou Williams. Williams averaged 17.5 points per game and was scoring a lot even before he was traded to the Rockets. He puts up solid numbers coming of the bench for Mike D’Antoni with Eric Gordon. Williams averaged 18.6 points per game at the Lakers and averaged 14.9 with Houston.

MVP: Russell Westbrook. Westbrook averaged a triple-double throughout the entire NBA season which had only been done once before, and he broke Oscar Robertson’s record for triple-doubles in a season. This really clinched the MVP for Westbrook in my opinion but there is more. Westbrook was not getting 15 points with his triple-doubles, he was getting 32 points. The only flaw with this is that his team did not win as much has Harden’s Rockets, but Westbrook should get MVP anyway.

NBA Trade Countdown

It is currently 12:06 and the NBA trade deadline in just 3 hours and trade talks are heating up in the NBA. Here are all the trade rumors in the NBA.

  1. Jimmy Butler- to the Celtics- likelihood of trade: 2 or 3. I don’t see a reason for the Bulls to trade away their best player even for a Jae Crowder or draft picks, Butler is averaging 24.5 points per game, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. The Bulls shouldn’t trade Jimmy Butler, but shaking up the roster might not be so bad of an idea for Chicago with all the problems this team has been experiencing. Also Jimmy Butler is an All-Star, Jae Crowder is not. But the Celtics have reportedly said that they aren’t interested in trading Jae Crowder.
  2. Paul George- to the Lakers- likelihood of trade: 2. The Pacers reportedly want to keep George, and really what are you leaving your team if you trade your only All-Star, and your best player. Because I’m not a Pacers fan I won’t mind if George got traded but there is not a lot to leave your fans with after this trade.

3. Carmelo Anthony- to anyone really- likelihood of trade: 3 or 4. A lot of people don’t think Melo will get traded now but you never really know with trades. There were talks going around with the Clippers, and Cavaliers but those have died down. I don’t think Melo will get traded but we could be in for a surprise.

Battle For the East

The race to secure the number one spot in the Eastern Conference has begun, the race is between the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics, the Washington Wizards, the Toronto Raptors, and the Atlanta Hawks. As of now the Cavaliers lead the Eastern Conference with a record of 39-16. The Celtics are only 3 games behind the Cavs though. But the team that could steal the first place position is the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors just acquired Serge Ibaka from the Orlando Magic. This is a solid pickup for the Raps as they chase the Cavs, a power forward that can shoot threes and play a little defense, he should do well. The Hawks are on the edge of being out of this race as they sit at number 5 in the East with a record of 32-24. But the Washington Wizards are on a 4 game winning streak, but they do face a tough schedule coming out of the All-Star Break. They play in Philadelphia and then at home versus the Jazz and the Warriors, and close it out with back-to-back games against the Toronto Raptors. Projected record through that I think will be 3-2 or 2-3. I think that either the Celtics, Cavaliers, or the Wizards will come out on top of this eastern conference.

After the All-Star break the Golden State Warriors will take on the Los Angles Clippers. Chris Paul will not play in the game due to an injury. Golden State is looking to win their 4th straight over the Clippers this season. Golden State is coming off a win against Sacramento and the Clippers are coming into this game off 4 straight wins. Golden State is chasing their 48th win this season while the Clippers are looking to pick up their 36th win. The Warriors will be playing this game at home where they are 24-3 and the Clippers are 18-8 on the road. Who will win?
